Healthy Posture Mini dachshund, strange posture...should I be worried? ?
Hello,
My mini-dachshund is 7 months old and so far seems really healthy. The vet said he looked great a few months ago when he was in for a check-up, he has lots of energy, loves to run around and play, and when we are on walks, he has no trouble going long distances and seems to display no weakness in any of his legs.
My question is in regards to a weird posture he commonly displays. When he is standing still, he will squat with his rear legs as if he were about to pee. So his knees are slightly bent and his rear end is closer to the floor than his front. Since dachshunds are known for back problems, I thought I should check to see if anyone knows if this could be some sort of early indication sign.
I personally think that he does this when he is relaxed and looking up at us or our other dog (since he is so little), As I mentioned, he shows no other signs of weakness in his legs.
Has anyone else encountered this type of posture?
LOL my mini doxie Dodger sits like that all the time. their legs are very short. so it's hard for them to "sit" on their butt w/their front legs up cause the distance is so long...they kind of "hover" sit, as i call it.
he can sit down on his butt fully, but it's usually when he leans more on one leg than the other...like if you were switching from foot to foot w/all your weight.
hard to explain.
edit: OKAY! found a pic to illustrate what i mean.

so in order for this doxie to actually "sit" comfortably w/front legs up and back end down they have to lay sideways...if the dog was sitting more up on his back legs in the way that most dogs sit...they would "hover sit". there is just too much back end to sit that way for them. when they do sit like that their front legs splay out to the sides a bit or as i said before, they shift weight from one leg to the other.
