you have to root it first. in a container large enough to hold the ends of the bamboo add water enough to cover then ends. Let them soak regularly changing the water. In a few weeks there should be nubs forming on the end of the plant. theses are the begining of the roots. you then can plant the bamboo in a mossy soil and place gravel on top of the soil to keep the bamboo growing straight up.
