Bionic Ear Please help me on the bionic ear (Cochlear implant)?
What is a bionic ear?
What motivated the designer (graem Clark) to develop this product?
What are the functional attributes of this product?
Do you think the current Bionic Ear is the size it is, given that the original design had a rather large transmitter that the user has to carry around?
Other than comfort, are there any other reasons why you think each modification to a previous bionic ear is smaller?
List the benefits to society (sociological factors)?
Make a prediction as to where you think the net development of the cochlear implant will go?
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!
A cochlear implant if for use by people who have completely lost their hearing. Part of the device is implanted into the skull and stimulates the hearing nerve directly. The outside piece you see is the sound processor/transmitter. The size of the transmitter has gotten smaller and smaller as has everything else. As technology has improved it has allowed for the miniaturization of parts. This applies to cochlear implants, hearing aids, computers, televisions, cell phones etc. As for as the next development of the cochlear implant I believe they are working on a fully implantable device so there will be no outside transmitter. This will be tricky, but I don't think it is too far off.
